Have you hit the low point? Force a creative re-boot.
At the beginning of the new decade, I said I would tell stories of truth and honesty through my work (see that article here). In the UK, we're now going through week 7 of lockdown, and for those in my industry, it's been a pretty scary and de-motivating time. I write this in the hope that others may find they've not been alone in their struggle through this period, and that my experience so far could spark some ideas to get back in the game.
Finding Your Creative Identity During Lockdown
The whole world right now is in an extreme state of instability, uncertainty and irregularity. So, how do we keep progressing, or at least, stay on the right path?
At the beginning of this year I gave a lecture to the Edinburgh College of Art Photography students, and one of the biggest points I wanted to make in that lecture was how to hone in on your creative identity. Later on, I started writing an article about it, because I believe it is the steps you take and the exercises work through that are imperative towards giving you confidence in your own unique abilities.
Bringing a client's vision to life
One of the main joys I get from the work I do is bringing someone else's vision to life. To take the ideas they have in their head, develop and interpret them in the form of something awesome too look at. Here's my take on that process, and the 'forgotten stuff' we should bear in mind when bringing a client's vision to life.
